Hello there!
We are Kingdom gardens, a small local garden business located in Steven County, Washington. We aspire to help the home gardener live a better, healthier, more regenerative life. We do this by providing natural, heirloom products that are grown with regenerative practices, as well as with some information and guidance on how to grow regeneratively in our local, northern climate.
Our mission is to promote freedom and stability through regenerative agriculture in our local community.
Allow us to explain what some of these terms mean to us!
Regenerative
We believe that growing regeneratively is a holistic approach to gardening, farming and land management.
Regenerative practices are not only sustainable and reliable, but also improve soil health, land and animal health, nutrient density in food, and consequently, human health.
Regenerative practices focus on restoring the health of ecological systems by improving soil organic matter, soil biodiversity, and the water cycle. This results in fewer pests, more efficient water use, healthier soil organisms, healthier plants, and overall, healthier food and a healthier environment!
Heirloom
When a plant is heirloom it means that the plant whose seed it was grown from was open-pollinated through natural means, instead of being genetically modified or hybridized in a lab.
Heirloom plants are never genetically modified or hybridized, and so their seed reproduces true to it’s own kind, so long as it is not crossed with other plants from the same family.
Hybrid varieties are often bred primarily for production or durability whilst being shipped, while heirloom plants have been handpicked for flavor and other favorable characteristics for generations. Because of this, most heirloom varieties have an ancient history and are known for their superior flavor, nutrition, and sustainability!
We choose to grow heirlooms for all of these reasons.
Local
We believe strongly in local community, local farming and local business. By focusing together on local agriculture and business we can not only promote stability in tenuous times, but also create a cohesive, thriving culture in our communities and families.
It is our goal from this year forward to begin sourcing all our materials as local as possible, including seed, soil, pots and more.
We love the beauty and resilience of our home, Stevens County, and we love making it a freer, healthier, happier place!
Natural
We grow all our plants and produce using natural, regenerative practices. To us, natural means never using synthetic or artificial pesticides, fertilizers, substances, or genetically modified organisms in the growth or harvesting process. Instead we use natural fertilizers and methods to promote plant health and nutrition.
We believe that God has provided all the means we need to fight issues such as pests and disease in creation, and so we find that natural is the best way to grow healthier plants, healthier farms and healthier people!
